Dear Diary,
My name is Darcy Foster.
I was left outside of a police station as a baby with nothing but a purple teddy bear. The officer that found me called social services and I spent the next 18 years growing up in foster care.
When I turned 18 I got a package in the mail which contained my mother’s diary. After all these years I finally learned why she choose to abandon me at the police station.
**Flashback**
Dear Diary,
I just turned 16 and received this diary as a gift. I was actually surprised mom and dad remembered my birthday.
Dad is a politician. It’s an election year and he is super busy on the campaign trail.
Mom is CEO of Landgrabb, Inc. and spends most of her time at work or on business calls.
I didn’t mind as that left more time for me to spend with my boyfriend Dawson.
Dawson took me out to for dinner for my birthday and afterwards we had a private celebration in the hot tub.
A few weeks after my birthday I started feeling nauseous.
And was frequently throwing up.
I took a pregnancy test and was shocked when the test came back positive.
I called Dawson and asked him to meet me at a nearby park. I was so nervous as I walked towards him.
I decided to just come right out with it and said, “I’m Pregnant.”
I figured Dawson would be surprised but I didn’t think he’d get so angry.
He shouted and yelled. He accused me of trying to trap him and of trying to ruin his life.
Then he told me that we were over. He wants nothing to do with either me or the baby.
I am 16 and pregnant. Dawson just broke up with me and there is NO way I can tell my parents about this.
Before I knew it I was starting to show.
Thankfully, for the most part I have been able to cover up the bump with baggier clothes.
It helps that my parents are so absorbed in their own stuff that they hardly pay any attention to me.
I actually stood right in front of them and they didn’t notice.
I somehow managed to hide my entire pregnancy. Then one night I woke up thinking I had to go to the bathroom only to have my water break. There was no way I was having this baby at the house and I can’t go to the hospital.
I got dressed and sneaked out of the house.
I just started walking and eventually stopped at the library.
Fortunately it was deserted. By this time the pain was so intense I knew the baby was coming soon.
I am not going to lie I was so scared.
I made it to the bathroom and went into one of the stalls.
I pushed and pushed.
I eventually gave birth to a baby girl.
I knew there was no way I could keep her. My parents would be furious and I was too young to be a mother. I took the baby to the local police station.
Walking away was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I really hope one day she reads this and understands why I gave her up. I just didn’t know what else to do.
**End of Flashback**
Having read my mom’s diary really helped me to better understand what she was going through and why she decided to give me up. It also inspired me to start writing and keeping a diary of my own.
